Holiday Cheer Awaits Travelers at GRR as Local Choirs Perform All Week
If you’re flying in or out of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport this week, your travel day might come with a little extra holiday cheer, and not the artificial kind pumped through a speaker system.
Local choirs from across West Michigan are performing at GRR all week long, now through Friday, Dec. 12. And while holiday airport crowds can bring out the worst in people (we’ve all seen it…), this annual tradition has a way of softening even the most stressed traveler.
This year marks the 29th Annual Airport Holiday Music Festival, giving us almost three decades of students showing up to make the airport holiday travel season just a little brighter.
You’ll find performances happen between 9 am and 2:30 pm in the Airport Grand Hall, right before the TSA checkpoint. Meaning you don’t even need a boarding pass to enjoy it, so go by and get some cheer if you’re in the area.
A total of 12 choirs will rotate through the terminal this week, each performing a 20-minute set. Here’s who you can catch if you happen to be passing through:
Tuesday, Dec. 9
• 9am – Zeeland Christian School Chorus
• 11am – Lee High School Varsity Choir
• 12:30pm – Ottawa Hills High School Festival Choir
Wednesday, Dec. 10
• 9am – West Side Christian Middle School Choir
• 11am – Coit Creative Arts Academy
• 12:30pm – City High Chorale and Jeweltones
Thursday, Dec. 11
• 12:30pm – Harrison Park Academy Elementary & Middle School Choir
Friday, Dec. 12
• 9am – Wyoming High School Concert Choir
• 11am – Illuminate Elementary Choir/Band Ensembles
• 12:30pm – Byron Center West 8th Grade Choir
So if you’ve got an early flight, a midday pickup, or just want to soak in some local talent, GRR is one of the happiest places to be this week. And honestly? Hearing a group of kids sing their hearts out might be the one part of holiday travel we can all agree on.
