If it felt a little extra packed at the airport this week, you weren’t imagining it. Monday officially became the busiest travel day ever at Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), with 9,095 people passing through TSA checkpoints, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

Even crazier? That wasn’t a one-off, as Electric Forest wrapped up over the weekend; it’s part of a much bigger trend that has been happening here in Grand Rapids.

The TSA says the 10 busiest days in Ford Airport’s history have all happened within the last six months.

Whether it’s spring break, holiday travel, or the kickoff to summer vacation season, travelers are showing up in record numbers and with the new upgrades, GRR is buzzing like never before.

With the summer travel season just beginning, officials expect the crowds to keep coming, so if you're used to the old school sleepy experience when you fly out of GRR next, think again. And honeslty- it's great to see. They've put a lot of work into making our airport into one of the best in the US.

As a friendly reminder since it's busier, the TSA recommends arriving at least two hours early, especially for morning flights, and coming prepared with your ID, boarding pass, and carry-on ready to go.
