You know darn well it's going to be somewhere east of the US 127 dividing line, because we over here in West Michigan can hold our drink.

So, you think you know where the heaviest drinkers in your state are? Well, the analysts over at 24/7 Wall Street might have a thing or two to say about that. They poured over a ton of data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control And Prevention, and came up with a definitive list of the drunkest city in each state.

To figure this out, they looked that percentages of adults who reported being “binge drinkers.” They followed this up with premature death rates – meaning those under 75. Then, they topped things off with an overview of overall health in a given area. Finally, they finished it off with some socioeconomic data, and voi-LAH!…your drunkest cities in each state!

And for Michigan, the drunkest city is (drum roll please, or at least a drunk trying to roll a drum)...it's Lansing-East Lansing!

Which makes perfect sense. Why? Because number one it's a college town, and those kids at Michigan State, like every other school in the state, have no self control. Many college kids begin each day with a bong hit and conclude with heavy binge drinking. (Why do I know this? Because I was one of them.)

And number two, it's the capital of the state, and have you seen what our lawmakers have been up to lately? Wouldn't that drive you to drink if you were merely a cog in that messy machine? You're damn right it would.

In the Lansing-East Lansing metro area — home to Michigan State University, the largest school in Michigan and the ninth largest in the country — some 14.2% of residents are enrolled in college, more than double the 7.0% share nationwide. An estimated 21.9% of adults in the Lansing-East Lansing metro area drink excessively, more than the comparable 20.0% statewide share and more than any other metro in Michigan.
