Beach Street In Muskegon Closed Three Months Early For Safety
One of my favorite spots to just “be”, by Lake Michigan, is being closed three months early because of high water levels in the lake and beach erosion.
The City of Muskegon posted a video on their Facebook page of Beach Street and waves crashing on to the roadway in front of stopped cars.
Their post said they were putting up the seasonal road closures on this afternoon (Wednesday) at noon. When the seasonal closures are up, Beach St. is closed from Lakeshore Drive to Beachwood Park.
Muskegon officials say they usually close the road down around Christmas time, but because of the beach erosion from a summer of high water levels and with the lake becoming hazardous during storm conditions, which will start happening more into the fall, they decided to shut the road down for safety reasons.
