Beastie Boys’ Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch Dead at 47
We’re sad to report that Adam Yauch, better known as MCA from the Beastie Boys has passed away. He was 47.
Celebrity site TMZ confirmed that Yauch passed away today. The cause of death is not known but he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his parotid gland in July 2009. The Beastie Boys delayed their album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 and pulled out of a scheduled appearance at Lollapalooza due to Yauch’s illness. He had undergone surgery and radiation therapy since his diagnosis.
The Beastie Boys formed in 1979 and were part of the pioneering hip-hop scene in the ’80s during their time at Def Jam Records, who released License to Ill in 1986. The trio evolved over the past 30 years and were finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month. Yauch was unable to attend the ceremony due to health reasons.
Yauch is survived by his wife Dechen and his daughter, Tenzin Losel Yauch. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
