We're approaching that time of the year again and instead of just dropping money into the bucket, go a step further and volunteer this holiday season.

The Salvation Army of Kent County is currently looking for several bell ringers as part of their Red Kettle Campaign. According to the Salvation Army website, the funds stay local and go towards after-school programs, community center programs, camps and anything else that helps the community. FOX 17 says the campaign raised more than $300,000 last year in Kent County alone.

The history of the Red Kettles began in 1891 to help out the poor in San Francisco around the Christmas season and has since expanded all throughout the U.S. and other countries.

Everyone is welcome to volunteer, including families. If interested you can sign up here and pick what part of town you want to volunteer in.

The Red Kettle Campaign begins on November 9th.
