And this summer the Kent County Salvation Army is bringing music to the ears of West Michigan with their multi-night summer concert series starting in May.

The newly announced Red Shield Summer Concert Series will feature free, outdoor shows that the entire family can enjoy. They plan to hold the 3 night event at the Kroc Center’s outdoor amphitheater (see map below)

One of the most unique things about this concert series is that not only will it benefit and spread awareness of The Kent County Salvation Army and their mission, but all of the performers for the event will have Michigan roots.

Each weekend will have a theme, celebrating different members of the community.

May 18th: Celebrating Community

The first concert plans to celebrate community with a performance from Cool2Duel, a dueling piano group who has brought their fun and unique stage show to audiences across the world.

Celebrate America a few weeks early with the second night of the concert series. The Salvation Army will honor active and retired military members and their families during this Red, White and Blue-themed night.

East Lansing saxophonist, Steve Spees will lead the celebration, as well as playing music from all genres from rock, country, to jazz.

August 17th: Celebrating Youth

Getting into the back to school spirit, the final of the concert series evenings is all about the youth of West Michigan. Not only will they be showcasing the talents of kids throughout the area, they will also hosting Miss Michigan 1984, Barba Jean, and her fun ventriloquist act.

For each concert they will be serving a grilled chicken dinner at 6pm (limited to the first 200 people) and the music starts at 7pm.
