As a wine connoisseur, I understand the need for a (full) glass of wine.

You know that old saying...

A glass of wine a day keeps the doctor away...

Even though Michigan, specifically Grand Rapids, is known for its love and appreciation for beer, wine is still a beloved pastime.

Don't believe me? This statistic from Statista proves that I am not alone in my love of wine.

Approximately 90 percent of the wine consumed in the United States in 2020 was table wine. This type of wine is non-sparkling, quite affordable, and suitable for drinking with a meal. The second-most commonly enjoyed type of wine was Champagne and sparkling, which accounted for a consumption share of nearly ten percent that year. Vermouth and aperitif wines were consumed the least by Americans.

While we are not in the #1 or #2 spot on this list, we are still in the top 10. The first and second spot on this wine consumption list is California and Florida, which makes complete and total sense.

With that being said, all of us in Michigan chugged 27,369 gallons of wine in 2020.

That means that Michiganders drank roughly 524 gallons of wine per week that year.

No judgment here! The year 2020 was the start of an insane two-year run. So, it makes complete sense why we drank so much wine.

So, if you have a long day at work or the kiddies and family are driving you up a wall, do not feel bad or alone when you grab that glass of wine.
