Candles, Activities, and Junk Food – Steve’s Daddy Tips (1-8-20)
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- Today’s first Daddy Tip is one that I forgot to do a month ago after Charlotte turned 2. We had a tiny bit of a traumatic experience that I totally forgot about until yesterday. Long story short, don’t assume that your 2-year-old knows how to blow out candles. Everyone at the party was saying to put the candle out before we put her cake in front of her, but dad (yeah I’m talking about me) said no way my baby is blowing out her candles.
- The next Daddy Tip is one I learned over Christmas vacation. When you have many days in a row with your child be prepared with some activities. After all of the fun of Christmas and her new toys wore off, Charlotte got bored. And what do 2-year-olds do when they are bored? Nothing good. Charlotte is used to activities every day at daycare so mom and dad turned about to be pretty lame when compared to playing at school with her friends. But by the end of the vacation, we were wise to her boredom and had some activities planned for her the last few days of vacation.
- And the final Daddy tip of the week is to never let your little one see where you hide the candy, cookies, chocolate, and other junk food. We got a lot of cookies and chocolates from family for Christmas, so we let Charlotte have some. Well, she saw which cupboard we keep it in and now we usually get a daily cry session when Charlotte decides she wants some chocolate and we tell her no. So, my advice to you is to never show your little one where you hide your stash. Of candy.
And now it’s time for an awesome Dad Joke!
