It was a tale of two halves for the Detroit Lions, who lost their season opener to the San Diego Chargers 33-28, in San Diego.

In the first half, the Lions looked unstoppable, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead on a 24-yard run from rookie running back Ameer Abdullah.

Glover Quin picked off a pass from Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in the second quarter and took it 31 yards for the second Lions touchdown of the game, giving them a 14-3 lead. Tight end Eric Ebron added an 18-yard touchdown reception from Matthew Stafford to give the Lions a 21-10 lead heading into the half.

It was all San Diego in the second half, though, as they put up 30 unanswered points to take the 33-28 win.

Stafford was 19-30 for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also had two interceptions in a losing effort. Abdullah, meanwhile, made a huge impact in his first NFL game, rushing for 50 yards and one touchdown and adding four catches for 44 yards.

The Lions will travel to Minnesota next weekend, September 20th, to battle the division rival Vikings.
