Eating, Spooky Cartoons, and Names – Steve’s Daddy Tips (10-23-19)
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- Today’s first Daddy Tip is something that might surprise you, but Charlotte has started to turn into a picky eater. Yup, the girl that can eat 2 adult-size portions of lasagna is starting to eat less. So, my tip is that almost every kid will eventually go through a picky eating phase when they get to be a toddler, so be sure to keep track of some of the healthier things they like and make sure to have lots of it on hand for meals and snacks. Right now Charlotte still loves blueberries, Cheerios, and different cheeses so we make sure we always have those things for when she just won’t touch her dinner.
- The next Daddy Tip is to tune into PBS this week because it’s Halloween on PBS Kids! Oh man, Charlotte and I have enjoyed watching her favorite cartoons get a spooky makeover for the week. And forget Charlotte, if you are anything like me, you still like kids cartoons, Halloween is one of your favorite holidays, and Halloween episodes of cartoons are literally the best things ever. There are Halloween episodes of Arthur, Cat in the Hat, Curious George and more! Oh man, I love Halloween cartoons.
- And the final Daddy Tip of the week is something I didn’t even think about until I noticed that Charlotte started to refer to herself in a peculiar way. Charlotte brought me a picture of Britt, her and I, and pointed at me and said daddy, pointed at Britt and said mama, and then she pointed at herself and said “you”. Huh? She thinks her name is “you” because we would always point at her in pictures and say that’s you. Now we always make it a point to say “that’s you, that’s Charlotte” when she points herself out in pictures. So, don’t make the same mistake we did, and when your kid points themselves out, in addition to saying you, use their name too. Whoops, hopefully, she doesn’t really think her name is you…
And now it’s time for a spooky Halloween Dad Joke!
Q: Why are graveyards so noisy?
A: Because of all of the coffin!
