Celebration Cinemas Want you to Lights, Camera, and Take Action with Popcorn Special
Like many people in West Michigan, my happy place is sitting in one of those reclining seats at Celebration Cinema and losing myself in another world or story for a few hours. Sometimes, it's easier to bury ourselves in a fictional world than it is to deal with our real world problems.
And the folks at Celebration Cinema already know this, that's why they're encouraging Michiganders to ‘Lights, Camera, Take Action’ Mental Health in Michigan this month. For the entire month of may, they're taking steps to combat mental health problems.
The 'Lights' part of the campaign features a spotlight on everyone's favorite movie snack, popcorn. Through the month of May, Celebration Cinema plans to give 50¢ from every large popcorn bucket sold to mental health services in our community.
Next, they're grabbing their Camera and they say that the best way to support mental health is an to have your own ensemble cast that understands your story and how to help you shine under the spotlight.

Celebration Cinema has put together a list of mental health resources in Kent, Ottawa, Isabella, Clinton, Kalamazoo, and Berrien Counties—plus online options you can check out while you're waiting for your movie to start. (Just don't be that jerk who is scrolling during the movie.)
And the last step they want people to do is to Take Action- they're also offering up one hour classes so people can be their own best mental health advocate, and how they can help people in their lives who need that extra help too.
While we may use the movies to escape our real world problems, it's a breath of fresh air to see our local movie chain trying to help us plant our feet in the real world and live our best non-cinematic lives throughout the month of may. You can find out more about this mission on their website.
