On the northernmost tip of the Lower Peninsula, you'll find the best place to retire in the state of Michigan.

USA Today put together a list of the best places to retire in each state and they determined that Emmet County was the place to be in Michigan.  Emmet County is home to both Petoskey and half of Mackinac City (the other half is in Cheboygan County).

USA Today determined the best places to retire based on 17 different health and economic factors.  Emmet County is home to about 33,000 people over the age of 65, comprising about 20% of the county's population.  There are about 1.3 primary care physicians per 1,000 people, which is almost double the national average of .75 primary care physicians per 1,000 people.

And finding a home in Emmet County is very doable with their affordable median home value of $171,000.  Plus once you move in, your monthly living expenses are cheaper than almost 2/3rds of the other counties in the state.

Sure, the winter will suck, but summers in Northern Michigan are truly amazing.
