The National Service has upgraded the Excessive Heat Watch to an Excessive Heat Warning, in effect for most West Michigan counties until 8:00 Sunday night, as some of the warmest temps in years will blanket the region. Air temperatures Saturday are expected to reach 95 with heat index readings that could climb as high as 110. The nighttime will be very warm and humid as well this weekend with lows only in the mid-70s Friday and Saturday night.

The last time temps and heat indices were this high was around this time of year in 2012 when several record high temps were recorded. That heat wave lasted several days.

Outdoor activities should be limited during the daytime today and tomorrow. Young children and the elderly should especially consider staying indoors. If you or someone you are with is overcome by heat, move to a shaded area and in cases of heat stroke, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Counties under the Excessive Heat Warning include: Allegan, Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Hillsadle, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Montcalm, Ottawa, St. Joseph and Van Buren.
