A fan-favorite burger chain most known for its frozen custard and steakburgers has closed one Grand Rapids location permanently.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened its first Grand Rapids location on Plainfield Ave. back in 2016. The chain's second location in the area popped up on Lake Michigan Dr. in Standale in 2017. More locations followed including one on 28th St., one at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport, and one on Alpine Ave. in northwest Grand Rapids.
Sadly, it appears that the Alpine location is now closed for good.

I came across a post about the closure on the Grand Rapids subreddit and decided to dig into it to be sure. Unfortunately, that news was confirmed when I Googled the location and saw that it is now listed as "permanently closed".
The Alpine location has also been removed from the company's website.

From the looks of things, the location closed at the beginning of January (some are saying that its last day of operation was December 31). Many in the comments on a post about it on the Grand Rapids Informed Facebook page suggest that the location simply didn't get a lot of business.
Leo, who delivers for Uber Eats shared his observations.
Every time I did deliveries for uber and went there it was always like one family there so not surprised it closed.
Other commenters were saddened by the news, lamenting about how they would now have to drive elsewhere to get their hands on the custard and burgers (along with their fries which people seem to rave about.)

Thankfully, as of the writing of this article, the Plainfield Ave. location, the Standale location, the 28th St. location, and the location at the airport remain open.
