Frustration, Water, and Play Dates – Steve’s Daddy Tips (7-31-19)
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- Today’s first Daddy’s Tip is to let your kid get frustrated! Yup, that’s right, when your little one is struggling to figure out something on their own, you don’t have to instantly run over and help them out. Charlotte likes playing with puzzles but she doesn’t always figure out which piece goes where right away and sometimes that will lead to a very frustrated kid. It’s OK, Miss Charlotte, you can figure it out and after a little bit, she usually does. Kids are smart and can figure things out on their own a lot of the time so there is no need to just show them how to do it.
- The next Daddy Tip is an easy alternative to giving your toddler juice. Juice can be as bad or worse for you than pop, but face it, kids love juice. We try to limit how much juice Charlotte gets but she has always preferred juice over water and sometimes that leads to her not drinking as much water as she probably should. So now sometimes we will cut up fresh fruit and put it in her water and it helps her get all the water she needs without consuming all the sugar that’s in juice.
- And the final Daddy Tip of the week is for parents who only have one child. Try to get your toddler to hang out with kids a couple of years older than them and you’ll get to see something cool. Charlotte got to hang out with a couple of kids who were 4 and 5 over the weekend and she was just smitten with them. When toddlers play with other toddlers, not much is going on because they still can barely communicate, but when Charlotte was playing with these kids she was following their directions while playing and just hanging on their every word. It was awesome to watch!
And now it’s time for an awesome Dad Joke!
