The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is some sort of weird mystery to many, and it's full of unique finds, quirky festivals, and history.
As the resident Yooper around here, I thought it was time that I share with you some of my favorite fun facts about the U.P.
There are some things that we already know about the Upper Peninsula as a whole - it gets snow (a LOT of snow), Yoopers are creative when it comes to getting rid of said snow, and it's where to go to get the best pasties in the state.
But there are some things about the U.P. that aren't as commonly known.
Lesser-Known Facts About Michigan's Upper Peninsula
For instance, if you're calling someone in the U.P., the number you dial has something in common with every other phone number held by a Yooper. Every single phone number in the Upper Peninsula has a 906 area code.
Similarly, if you're mailing something to someone in the U.P., no matter where they live, their zip code is going to start with the number "49".

Moving away from numbers and getting into some more quirky fun facts, the U.P. is home to a festival that celebrates a giant fungus, one that's all about outhouses, and even one that commemorates the yearly hay harvest.
