What Grand Rapids Drivers Need to Know About Upcoming I-96 Closures
Road construction is a major inconvenience that drivers in West Michigan know all too well.
From the Lakeshore to Grand Rapids, you see orange construction barrels popping up like weeds in your yard.
Just when you think they're all gone, another one pops up in a different spot.
Another construction project is starting up soon, and some drivers are likely to have some frustrations at first; however, when it's all done, the smooth drive should be worth it.

Work To Rebuild Stretch Of I-96 Near Grand Rapids Starts Next Week
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin work on a $3 million construction project that will rebuild a 3-mile stretch of I-96.
Starting on Monday May 12th work is expected to begin and is expected to wrap up in mid-July.

What Road Work Will Be Done
MDOT plans on making the road smoother, they'll do that with asphalt resurfacing and joint repairs between E. Beltline Avenue and Cascade Road.
- Drivers can expect lane closures, ramp closures, and total closures on weeknights from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
- Weekend closures will last until 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
- There will be intermittent ramp closures at the I-96 interchanges with Beltline, Fulton Street, and Cascade.
- Nightly total closures are planned at the I-96 and I-196 junction, with westbound traffic detoured to Cascade and eastbound traffic detoured to the Beltline.
My fingers are crossed that this project goes smoothly and by mid-summer those orange construction barrels disappear.
