Around 9:45 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, Mackinac County 911 & Emergency Management posted to Facebook and X that US-2 was closed between the Mackinac Bridge and Brevort (a roughly 20-mile stretch) due to "low visibility and multiple car crashes".

At 2:30 p.m., officials posted again, saying that the highway was still closed and would remain that way until further notice.

Saturday morning, around 11:30 a.m., an update came - US-2 remained closed, and officials said that at that time there was no estimated reopening time. In their message, they thanked MDOT crews for their hard work and encouraged motorists to drive safely.
