Grand Rapids Police: Hijacking of City Bus is “Bogus”
Panic ensued on Monday when people thought The Rapid bus was hijacked. However (and thankfully), that was not the case.
The freakout started because a sign on the back of the bus said "Call Police." Someone snapped a picture, posted it to Facebook, and then from there... well... you know... it's the internet.
Both The Rapid & Grand Rapids Police posted to social media that it "was an accidental push of the button" which is a safety feature on the bus. So the rumors of it being hijacked are totally false.
The Rapid reassured everyone that
All of our buses, passengers, and Operators are safe and sound this evening.
The post that started the madness stated that "authorities believe that there are 2 injured and suspect has a gun." As to where this person got the information is unknown but it got shared over 1,000 times. It's also a good reminder to not believe everything you see on the internet.
