Starting on Monday, all of Michigan is going to be dealing with an extreme heat wave.

What's Causing The Heatwave In Michigan

A massive high-pressure system will bring thick, miserable tropical air, causing heat and mugginess that's expected to last most of the week across the state.

The heat index this week is going to make going outside miserable.

• Monday June 29th high of 94°F with a projected heat index of 100°F
• Tuesday June 30th high of 97°F with a projected heat index of 100°F
• Wednesday July 1st high of 95°F with a projected heat index of 100°F
• Thursday July 2nd with high of 95°F with a projected heat index of 103°F
• Friday July 3rd high of 92°F with a projected heat index of 94°F

With this extreme heat it's important to take proper precautions to make sure you stay safe.

How To Stay Cool During A Heatwave

If you don't have A/C in your house or apartment you might want to find a cooling center nearby.

A lot of times local libraries, community centers, and senior centers across the state serve as official cooling centers during regular business hours.

You can also can call 2-1-1 to find the nearest active cooling site or check county health department pages for designated neighborhood spots.

Another thing you can do is to close your blinds, curtains, or shades on all sun-facing windows, especially during the peak afternoon hours.

And most importantly make sure you're staying properly hydrated, even if you're indoors the extreme heat can wreak havoc on your body.
