Technology is great, but it can be so awkward!

I would take a conference call over an actual meeting any day. You can join from pretty much anywhere, multitask while the meeting is going on, and you don't have to smell your co-worker's BO.

Each one of those reasons, minus the BO, can be the downside.

You join from a place with horrible internet service, the boss asks you a question when you're not paying attention, you start talking when someone else starts talking, or you start your presentation, lose your connection and don't realize it until 10 minutes after you start.
