Ionia County Residents Can Now Reach 911 Via Text

If you find yourself in an emergency in Ionia county, and can't talk, 911 texting is now available.

WZZM-13 reports Ionia county is now the sixth county in Michigan to adopt such a service. Though texting might be easier than a call, Ionia County Central Dispatch says calls are preferred so the operator can track the caller's location, in the event the caller doesn't know where he or she is.

To use the service, users just send a text to 9-1-1, as they would any other number.
