Could there be a Barrio Tacos + Tequila + Whiskey in the future for downtown Grand Rapids? It appears so!

The space on the first floor of 37 Ottawa Ave. NW has been for lease as a restaurant space. A few weeks ago, the sign in the window had a big red "leased" banner over it. So just who is going to be leasing out that space? Unfortunately, they never post signs when businesses are in the process of opening up. But I did a little investigating...

According to the directory board just inside the building, it looks like Barrio is listed to occupy that now vacant spot. They have not yet started construction on the inside space but the directory lists Barrio as "Coming Soon". No specific opening date has been released.

Barrio is the original build-your-own taco joint that started in Tremont, Ohio in 2012. By the end of 2020, the restaurant was in 11 locations - four states, five food trucks and two taco stands at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland. The restaurant features a build-your-own menu where you can customize tacos and bowls from a wide range of freshly prepared toppings and ingredients.

Their only other location in Michigan opened in East Lansing last spring. It is located at 202 Albert Street. They also have eight locations in Ohio, one in New Hampshire, and one in Massachusetts.

Barrio is known for having great food & service. They are also known for their vast selection of tequila, whiskey, and beer.

When additional information on just when the new location will open, follow their Facebook page or the official Barrio Tacos website.
