Thousands of West Michigan Catholics are observing the Lenten practice of abstaining from eating meat each Friday until Easter and many parishes in the Diocese of Grand Rapids Friday fish fries. Halls and other organizations host meals as well.

For many places, today is the last day of their Friday Lenten Fish Fries!

Varieties of fish vary and include Walleye, Pollock, and Smelt. Some organizations offer a baked fish option in addition to fried. You'll find different sides like French Fries, Coleslaw, Dinner Rolls, and Vegetable options.

In most cases the fish fries will run until the end of Lent  -  Lent ends with the start of the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. This year, Lent ends on March 28, 2024.
