UPDATE: Golden Corral on Alpine Ave. Shuts Down For Good – New Chik-Fil-A Is Moving In

UPDATE: It's official - Golden Corral Buffet and Grill in Walker is permanently closed. Monday, Oct. 10, 2022 was the restaurant's last day in business.

According to Wood TV 8, a new Chik-Fil-A restaurant will be opening in its place, at 3461 Alpine Ave NW.

The existing building will be demolished and a new 5,000-square-foot restaurant is being built.

The new Alpine Ave. Chik-Fil-A will have a drive-thru, indoor dining, area, and an outdoor patio that seats 28. A timeline for construction has not yet been revealed. 

ORIGINAL STORY 10/10/22: I saw multiple posts in Grand Rapids' food-related Facebook groups over the weekend wondering if the rumors were true and the Alpine Ave. Golden Corral has shut its doors for good.

Signs are pointing to yes...

Golden Coral Buffet and Grill first opened at 3461 Alpine Ave NW in 2010.

The restaurant has a ranking of 3 out of 5 stars on Trip Advisor. 

One reviewer from 2020 said of the Grand Rapids-area buffet:

Decent variety. You can start at one end with a variety of salad fixings and continue on through entrée choices and further down you arrive at the desserts. Not great food but not terrible. A little bit of something for almost everyone.

The buffet restaurant chain serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with items like pancakes, omelets, burgers, steaks, pizza, mashed potatoes, and fried chicken. 

After temporarily closing during the pandemic, and then opening back up - it appears the restaurant has shut down for good.

As of Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, Google shows the Grand Rapids-area buffet restaurant has permanently closed.

However, the Golden Corral Buffet and Grill Walker, Mich. Facebook page shared a post about chicken wings as recently as Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022.

Calls to the Golden Corral on Alpine Ave. have gone unanswered.

According to Golden Corral's website, the Grand Rapids location is listed as "closed".

At this point, it appears the closest Golden Corral Buffet to West Michigan, the Lansing location, is also closed. The website lists its status as "operations temporarily suspended."

So if you really love Golden Corral, at this point, you'll have to drive all the way to South Bend, Indiana, or Detroit to get it.
