Heaven Can Wait Animal Haven in Muskegon is running a "Neuter Your Ex" promotion for Valentine's Day.

For a $25 donation, the shelter will name a feral cat after someone who broke your heart and neuter (or spay) them.

It's part of their TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program, in which the cats will then be returned to their colonies after being fixed.

This helps control the feral cat population.

According to Alley Cat Allies,

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the only humane and effective approach to community cats, or unowned cats who live outdoors. Scientific studies show that TNR effectively addresses the community cat population by ending the breeding cycle, meaning no new kittens are born to a community cat colony.

The shelter does say it may take several months or more before your chosen name is used, but they promise it will be used eventually!

A shelter in New Jersey is running a similar promotion for Valentine's Day, with the tag line "because some things shouldn't breed".

Heaven Can Wait is non profit organization serving the West Michigan Lakeshore Counties, dedicated to rescuing, re-homing and providing spay and neuter options for cats and kittens. They are dedicated to helping reduce the population of unwanted pets.
