New Goodwill Store Planned for Caledonia

Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids is opening a new retail store at 6459 Cherry Meadow Dr. SE in Caledonia after the William Shurlow family donated the land for the project. The project is being developed with Pinnacle Construction Group, with construction expected to start in the fall.

Right now, shoppers in the area looking for the nearest Goodwill are having to drive to Grand Rapids or Hastings for thrift runs and donation drop-offs. This new spot will change that.

I definitely know firsthand how helpful stores like Goodwill can be. When my husband Charlie and I moved into our first house together a few years ago, so much of what we bought was second-hand.

Furniture, lamps, décor, kitchen stuff, bedding—we got it all. When you’re trying to fill a house without spending a fortune, thrift stores become part of the routine pretty quickly.

Goodwill's Presence in West Michigan

Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids currently operates 18 stores across the region, with revenue from those locations helping fund employment and job training programs throughout West Michigan.

The nonprofit says 90 cents of every dollar spent in its stores goes back into programs that help people facing barriers to employment, including job search assistance, interview prep, training, resume help, and ongoing support.

According to Goodwill, 2,100 people use those services every year through its Employment Center.

When Will Goodwill in Caledonia Open?

A grand opening date hasn't been announced for the new Caledonia store yet, but it's expected sometime in 2027.

The new store will also help guide future improvements at other Goodwill locations in the area.
