The Snowiest Cities in America? Grand Rapids Is One of the Top!
It's not winter yet and already we have broken snowfall records here in West Michigan because Halloween was shockingly snowy! Over 11 inches fell in Muskegon knocking out power to over 30,000 and cancelling Halloween trick-or-treating. It had to be held yesterday, November 1st. But Muskegon wasn't the only place getting lots of snow with six-plus inches falling in Holland, seven-plus in Grand Haven. and several communities got over eight inches. Holy snowfall!
So, is this what we can expect for Winter of 2023/2024? Who actually knows, but the Farmers Almanac says probably. It could be a harsh and snowy Winter. We'll just have to wait and see.
When it comes to the states and the amount of snow that falls on average each year, Michigan ranks right up there with the best of them coming in at number six of the top 10 snowiest states in America. Of course we do, we're Michigan, right?
New Hampshire is the #1 state for snow with an average of 174 inches of snow each year. Some of the other Top 10 snow averages for states are:
#2 - Maine with 92 inches
#3 - Vermont with 80 inches
#4 - Alaska with 79 inches
#5 - Wyoming with 77 inches
#6 - Michigan with 70 inches
#7 - New York with 61 inches
Okay, that's for the states, but what about the snowiest cities in America? Well, you don't have to look too far to find a place we all know and love in the top 10.
