Canadian Man Arrested Trying to Swim to Michigan to Steal Gun

A Canadian man is in federal custody after attempting to swim into Michigan illegally in order to steal a gun.

Jeremy Wallace was arrested after swimming across the St. Clair River from Sombra, Ontario. The video of a Macomb County Sheriff's deputy taking Wallace down is included in the video below from WDIV-TV.

Illegal Journey from Canada to the US

Upon arrival on the shore of the St. Clair River in East China Township, Wallace then reportedly walked more than 16 miles to a pawn shop in New Haven.

Wallace's illegal entry into the US by crossing an international border forced New Haven High School and New Haven Elementary School to go into lockdown on September 6. He was armed with a crossbow pistol and nine rounds of ammunition.

The federal complaint indicates that Wallace says he entered the United States in order to obtain a weapon. He was unable to purchase a gun in Canada, so he researched pawn shops in Michigan that sell guns with the intent of stealing a gun in the US.

Wallace further planned to swim back to Canada with the weapon but his intentions once he returned home are unknown.

Pawn Shop Employees Refuse Sale

Upon arriving in New Haven, Wallace entered Metro Pawn. An employee of the Pawn shop tells WDIV that something about the man seemed suspicious and he instructed employees not to sell Wallace a firearm.

After his unsuccessful attempt to purchase a gun, Wallace then grabbed a .22 Sig Sauer handgun and two clips, before running out of the store. He was apprehended by the Macomb County Sheriff's deputy shortly thereafter.
