West Michigan High School Girls Finally Have This Awesome New Varsity Option

I love that more and more sports are becoming available for high school girls across Michigan to participate and play in each year.

Here in West Michigan high school girls will now have a chance to play Varsity Hockey.

Jenison Starts Girls Varsity High School Hockey Team

Jessica Patera is the team manager and shared with Fox 17 that this started because she wanted to create a place for girls just like her daughter to play and compete.

"I have a daughter that plays hockey at the high school age level, and we haven't had a high school team here before on the West Side, so it's a pretty big deal, We need more options for girls out here."

High school girls in Ottawa and Kent counties are welcome to play on the Jenison team's inaugural season.

If you have a daughter that is interested in playing but doesn't have a ton of experience, don't let that hold her back.

This program is open to high school girls in Ottawa and Kent counties, with no cuts and all skill levels welcome.

I LOVE that this is happening and I hope it catches on and more and more schools in West Michigan start creating varsity hockey teams for their girls to play on.

Who knows what this could lead to.

Maybe one day a girl that played on this team could go on to the college level and maybe one day be part of a gold medal team USA at the Olympics.
