As the weather gets nicer, the desire to be outside grows, so it’s great to see that John Ball Zoo announced their opening day for the 2021 season.

John Ball Zoo’s opening day is Saturday, March 27th, with gates opening at 9 am.

This spring is exciting because as the zoo reopens to the public, a few babies born last year will be making their debut as well.

Rose, Ruby, and Willow, the red panda cub triplets that were born June 25th last year, will finally be out on display. Zookeepers say that they’ve already been playing and enjoying the outdoors, so they along with Wyatt and Wasabi will be a visitor favorite.

Also last May, a Canada lynx named Yoshi was born at John Ball Zoo, and while not quite a kitten by looks, she’s still very playful and will also be a lot of fun to visit.

The zoo is something fun to do a few times a season because some animals are more active in the cooler spring weather and some really come alive when it warms up for the summer. So you get a different experience both times.

According to the Zoo’s press release, there’s also a “supersized” exhibit opening,

This exhibition supersizes nature’s small and mighty. From sneaky predators such as the fearless honey badger, to the venomous blue-ringed octopus, the more than 30 toy brick sculptures are featured because of their colorful appearance in nature, unusual natural abilities, and because they can be magnified to an eye-popping size.

John Ball Zoo’s opening day is March 27th. You can start buying tickets this Friday for March 27 - April 11th visits, because the zoo will still be operating under limited capacity because of COVID-19 safety. So you’ll still need to reserve a time for your visit which you can do online.  You can also buy tickets at the zoo but you may not be able to get in right away if they’re at capacity.  The zoo will also still ask visitors to social distance and if you're at least 5 years old and older, to wear a mask while strolling through the zoo.  Other COVID-19 sanitizing precautions from last year will still be in place.

John Ball Zoo will be open 10 am - 4 pm, Monday through Friday, and 9 am to 6 pm on the weekends.
