Why Did Kroger Fire Beverly Bennett?

Beverly was fired for trying to stop a customer from stealing a shopping cart full of liquor in the fall of 2021 at Kroger in Lincoln Park.

On that day, Beverly was working and the alarm went off at the store’s exit. She grabbed a basket and stood in front of the shopping cart loaded up with liquor bottles.

Beverly told WDIV 4 she asked the man for a receipt and stood in front of his cart. She then swung the basket  at the cart and told the man "don't touch it, you're not getting this cart" After the confrontation, the man ended up leaving the shopping cart and ran away. When that happened, Beverly was congratulated and treated like a hero by coworkers for what she did.

Beverly and her lawyer claim that she lost her job because of that incident. The main reason was for swinging that basket at the shopping cart with the stolen liquor inside.

Beverly claims she didn’t violate any company policies and said her employee record over the past 31 years at Kroger is spotless. Her attorney has filed a lawsuit against Kroger.
