Ladies How Do You Do it? Viral Dilated Pumpkins Show What It’s Like To Give Birth
Since the beginning of time men have always questioned how bad can childbirth really be?
Well, after seeing this "Dilation Pumpkin" display I'm here to tell my fellow men.
there is absolutely no way we could handle childbirth!
A few years back Midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire created a carved pumpkin display that will forever be burned into your brain. The display is called "Dilation Pumpkins" and it will absolutely change the way you look at childbirth.
In the Viral photo, ten pumpkins are lined up from 1cm dilation to 10cm dilation. The 1st pumpkin seems perfectly fine but don't get comfortable because things start to get scary as we jump to the 3rd pumpkin who appears to be in some slight discomfort.
Before we even make it out of the first row to Pumpkin #5 which is 5cm of dilation I'm already feeling a bit sick to my stomach and afraid of what I'll see next.
Looking at the bottom row of Pumpkins doesn't even seem humanly possible. and makes me wonder how any woman could give birth without an epidural.
When I made it to the final pumpkin #10 which is 10cm of dilation I immediately called my mom and told her how sorry I am that she brought me into this world and that I ever had the nerve to talk back or disobey her.
Here's a more in-depth explanation according to Wikipedia In the later stages of pregnancy, the cervix may already have opened up to 1–3 cm (or more in rarer circumstances), but during labor, repeated uterine contractions lead to further widening of the cervix to about 6 centimeters. From that point, pressure from the presenting part (head in vertex births or bottom in breech births), along with uterine contractions, will dilate the cervix to 10 centimeters, which is "complete."
General guidelines for cervical dilation:
- Latent phase: 0–3 centimeters
- Active Labor: 4–7 centimeters
- Transition: 8–10 centimeters
- Complete: 10 centimeters. Delivery of the infant takes place shortly after this stage is reached (although the mother does not always push right away.)
Ladies you win! There is no way any guy could handle any of this.
