If you’ve ever teed off at Lakewood Shores in Oscoda, you know just how special that place is. It’s not just a golf course, it’s a community. (I grew up in a golf course neighborhood, and the clubhouse was always our community center.)

That's what made the news from earlier this week all the more heartbreaking: the beloved clubhouse caught fire and burned down overnight on May 6th.

We can start with the good news: Thankfully, no one was hurt, which is the most important thing.

But still, for anyone who’s ever grabbed a bite at the bar after a round, or kicked back on the patio with friends, it’s a real gut-punch. That clubhouse wasn’t just a building, it was the heart of the resort just like any other clubhouse is at a golf course.

According to a heartfelt message shared from the Lakewood Shores team, they’re incredibly grateful to the first responders who jumped into action. And while the damage is total, the spirit of the place isn’t going anywhere.

The team made it clear in their statement: the Lakewood Shores clubhouse is more than a structure; it’s about the people, the memories, and the love of the game itself. So, this may be a setback, but it's not the end.

Owners and staff say they’ll be sharing more in the coming days about what’s next for the resort, and if the outpouring of support from the golf community is any sign, they won’t be rebuilding alone.

It’s a tough loss, for sure. But if you know Michigan golfers, who already suffer a half of a year waiting for the weather to be good enough to play their favorite sport, you know they’re a resilient bunch.
