Let's take a look back at this incredible comeback.
First Half Struggles
The Lions went into halftime trailing 23-7 to the Texans.
Goff's early struggles were evident as he threw three interceptions, contributing to a series of missed opportunities for the Lions. The Texans capitalized on these mistakes, scoring 23 points in the first half, including two field goals and a touchdown.
Second Half Turnaround
The momentum shifted dramatically in the second half. As the Lions' defense stepped up, shutting out the Texans in the final two quarters. A key interception by cornerback Carlton Davis III early in the third quarter gave Detroit a glimmer of hope.
Although Goff threw another interception soon after, the Lions were able to respond with a touchdown run by David Montgomery, cutting the Texans lead down to 23-13.
As the fourth quarter unfolded, Goff found his rhythm. He connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown that brought Detroit within three points at 23-20.
The Lions continued to apply pressure on Houston's offense, forcing them into a three-and-out and setting up a crucial moment for kicker Jake Bates.
Bates successfully kicked a 58-yard field goal to tie the game at 23 with just over five minutes remaining—marking one of the longest field goals in Lions history.
The Texans had an opportunity to regain the lead but missed a critical field goal attempt.
With less than two minutes left on the clock, Goff led a final drive downfield. After converting a pivotal third down, Bates came through again with a 52-yard field goal as time expired, sealing the dramatic comeback victory for Detroit.
With the win, the Detroit Lions improve to 8-1 on the season and will be home at Ford Field this Sunday as the take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1pm.
