Grand Rapids made its way up the list due to the fact that it has a strong job market with lots of decent paying opportunities. However, our cost of living is a little higher than other cities in it's ranking. However, if you find something you love to do, Grand Rapids tends to be a great place to be doing it.

It may come as no surprise, but Detroit is the worst city in Michigan for jobs. Unfortunately, it's the 9th worst in the US on top of it's last place ranking in the mitten state.
The main reason Detroit ranked so low is it's unemployment rate. In fact, according to Wallethub's data Detroit has the highest unemployment rate in America.
So while Detroit has a lot to do, and a lot of fight, it's a hard place to make a living you love. The west side of the state seems to be the best side when it comes to employment opportunities.
