A Luxury Hotel Is Opening in Detroit’s Most Iconic Building

Detroit is about to get a serious glow-up, especially for fans of luxury travel.

For the first time ever, the acclaimed NoMad hotel brand is planting roots in Michigan. The brand’s first location in the state will open inside the iconic Michigan Central Station, a once-abandoned train depot in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood that has undergone a dramatic restoration.
Set to debut in 2027, the hotel will feature nearly 180 guest rooms, including 30 suites, and will anchor the west side of the building and its uppermost floors.

Once it opens, it will mark a historic first: the top five floors of the 112-year-old station (which include floors 14 through 18) will finally be used for the first time in the building’s long and storied life.

With a reputation for blending luxury hospitality with vibrant culinary and cultural experiences, the hotel will bring something entirely new to the city of Detroit: a refined elegance inside one of Michigan’s most striking architectural marvels.

Michigan Central Station first opened in 1913 and quickly became one of the busiest and most beautiful train depots in the country. But after closing in 1988, it sat vacant for decades, that’s until Ford Motor Company stepped in.

After purchasing the building in 2018, Ford spent six years bringing it back to life. It reopened to the public last year with a huge celebration, complete with tours and even a star-studded concert on its front lawn.
