We all love to see someone shine, and pageants of all kinds are the way to showcase some of the best and brightest. Grand Rapids is lucky to call itself home and host to one of the most inspiring pageants, of all Ms. Wheelchair Michigan.

Earlier this year, the kind folks at Mary Free Bed announced their search for Ms. Wheelchair Michigan would happen on Sunday November 20th. However, due to an unusually heavy early winter snowstorm, they were forced to push the date of the pageant back to December.

And the winner is...

Three women competed for the title of Ms. Wheelchair Michigan 2023 in Grand Rapids.

And a congratulations goes out to Detroit resident, Jamie Junior, who was crowned the new Ms. Wheelchair Michigan for 2023.

After several interviews with judges and answering questions in front of the guests at the event, Jamie Junior charmed them all and won the opportunity to be next spokeswoman for people with disabilities across the state.

The other contestants who competed in this year’s competition were Tami David, of Muskegon, and Kristy Stratton-Sagraves, of Caledonia.

Jamie will now take her title to get big stage, because her next stop is the national competition, Ms. Wheelchair America. Lucky for her, she won't have to travel far because it's going to be held here in Grand Rapids, in August 2023.

To learn a little more about Jamie Junior, she works at the Disability Network of Wayne County. Her platform is financial empowerment and stability for people with disabilities, with a focus on housing and transportation. She uses a wheelchair for mobility, because she was born with cerebral palsy.

Jamie is also proud of her win, saying "I feel validated as an advocate and as a woman". And we're proud of Jamie too! Congratulations to her for her accomplishments, and we're rooting her on to make Michigan shine on the national stage in 2023.
