A former football coach for the Michigan Wolverines, who was fired in 2023 for not cooperating with an investigation, has now been charged with federal crimes.

According to the Associated Press (AP) Matt Weiss who was an assistant coach for the Michigan Wolverines football team was able to gain access to the databases of more than 100 colleges and universities that were maintained by a third-party vendor, and then downloaded personal information and medical data of more than 150,000 athletes.

How Did He Gain Access?

He was able to pull this crime off after learning online how to crack the encryption protecting the passwords.

According to criminal records, his primary targets were female student-athletes.

Weiss was also able to access videos and pictures that were meant for the students' intimate partners and nobody else.

He would keep notes on the photos he downloaded illegally and went back years later looking for newer pictures.

Weiss has been charged with 24 counts, 14 counts of unauthorized access to computers and 10 counts of aggravated identity theft.
