Mealtime, Bad Habits, And Cherishing – Steve’s Daddy Tips (1-9-18)
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- Today’s first Daddy Tip is for all the parents whose babies are past eating baby food and are eating the same food that you’re eating. We learned with Charlotte that babies don’t really have a good grasp on how much food they can fit in their mouths. Charlotte would just grab handfuls of whatever is on her plate and go to town. Well, that can be a choking hazard so we figured out how to slow down her eating. Just make sure that when you give the food to your baby, you space it out on the plate. We cut up her food into little pieces and spread it all over her highchair tray so she can only eat little bites at a time. Plus it makes meal time last a bit longer so you can clean up the kitchen while the baby finishes eating.
- The next Daddy Tip is to not let your little one fall into bad habits when they are still really young. Charlotte is really big into checking things out with her hands, and that was all well and good until she fell into the habit of grabbing your face. She is always reaching out to grab your nose, your ears, heck even your eyes. It was cute at first, but now that she is bigger and has better motor controls, it’s quite the nuisance. She sticks fingers in your nose (get a good one up there, baby girl?), will poke your eye (I know I would look cool with an eye patch, but seriously), and tug on your ears (I’m just glad I don’t wear earrings). We are in the process of telling her no and stopping her from doing that, but we wish we would have started to stop her from doing that at an earlier age. So don’t be like us, and make sure that you stop bad habits before they begin!
- And the final Daddy Tip of the week is to cherish all of the little moments with your little one because they grow up quick! I can see why people are always saying enjoy them while they’re young already, and Charlotte is only a year old. Ever since she started crawling, she doesn’t like being held as much as she used to, so the only time we have holding her now is when she is asleep. Sad times. And I can’t even imagine what it will be like when I can’t pick her up and carry her around anymore. So, hug your babies extra long tonight and let them fall asleep in your lap because they won’t do that forever!
And now it’s time for an awesome Dad joke!
Q: Why did the coffee file a police report?
A: Because it got mugged!
