Car ferries aren't exclusively a Michigan thing, but it seems we have a lot more here than most places. Granted, we also have five giant lakes, right?
Well, you could own a piece of Michigan maritime history with this awesome-looking 1950s car ferry that's up for sale.

Back in its heyday, the vessel was used to transport people, goods, and vehicles back and forth between Barbeau and Neebish Island in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, traversing the West Neebish channel from 1951 all the way up until 1999.
While the boat has been out of commission for over 25 years, it still appears to be in pretty good shape. And it's a steal at just $110,000.

One of the things that I found most interesting about the ferry listing that I came across was that it was being marketed to people interested in houseboats. A former ferry would make a pretty spacious place to live. But, you'd definitely have to put in a lot of work to make it habitable.
One commenter on Facebook made an excellent suggestion for making it livable pretty quickly.
Drop a couple of containers on this puppy and call it a home. You can even ferry your own car! - Martin S.
Just imagine, though, taking this old steering wheel and putting it in a playroom for kids.
Other commenters suggested turning the deck of the boat into a basketball court.

I'm hopeful that someone will snag this piece of history and restore it. While it hasn't been used for commercial use in a long time, it's now licensed as a private vessel and the possibilities of what you could do with it are endless.
