Michigan's Snowiest City Gets A Lot Of Lake Effect Snow
I grew up in Howell which is about 40 minutes east of Lansing.

We had a snow day if we got 6 inches of snow which seemed like a lot.
But when I was 21 and moved out to Grand Rapids which is much closer to Lake Michigan, I got to experience the fun that is lake effect snow.
According to GLISA, during the late fall and winter seasons in the Great Lakes region, the flow of cold air masses across the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes waters results in the production of dramatic lake-effect snowfall downwind of the lakes, particularly on the southern and eastern shores.
This lake effect produces increased seasonal snowfall amounts compared with communities farther inland, as well as located upwind of the Great Lakes.
