Every day, it seems a little bit tougher to afford the basic things we all need when we walk up and down the aisle at the grocery store.

In recent months, you've probably noticed that the cost of a dozen eggs has gone up, but soon the current prices will seem affordable compared to what's coming in 2025.

Michigan Egg Prices Expected To Surge In 2025
Currently in Michigan, the average price for a dozen eggs is around $6.
I've heard from friends in northern Michigan that they had to pay $10, while I recently managed to score two dozen eggs for less than $3 each in Grand Rapids.
According to a new forecast by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) egg prices in Michigan and across the United States are expected to go up 41% by the end of 2025.
Why Egg Prices Are Going Up So Much
We can thank an outbreak of a severe avian influenza (HPAI) for the rising costs.
The USDA reported that approximately 18.8 million commercial egg layers were affected by HPAI in January 2025. There is some good news regarding chicken: poultry prices are expected to remain stable in 2025.
