Michigan Gets Its First ‘Sober Bar’
Lansing's Wing Heaven Sports Haven opened this week, just in time for March Madness. It's a bar -- that doesn't serve alcohol.
The owners of Wing Heaven said they are delighted to be the first in the state to pick up on a trend that started out west.
Co-owner Theresa Stokes told the Lansing State Journal that the bar has a niche market, people who are in recovery, or people who just don't want to be around drinkers.
"When you are on probation or anything, you can't even go to Applebee's because they serve alcohol, but you still need somewhere to go and have social engagement other than AA or NA meetings."
"They can come here and watch a game, shoot pool or play air hockey. It's the same environment as a bar, minus the alcohol."
Don't be surprised to see this idea take off around the Grand Rapids area soon.
