A new year is also bringing new laws into the state of Michigan. WXYZ Detroit put together a list of laws that are going into effect in the coming days and weeks that you should be aware of.

  • Drivers will now be able to show their proof of auto insurance, when pulled over, on their cell phone or some type of electronic device. A hard copy will not be required.
  • Health inspections will not be required on temporary food establishments such as concession stands that serve "low-risk" food i.e. pre-cooked hot dogs, popcorn
  • Revise rules so veterans and others with service animals will be able to visit any type of public accommodation without refusal. IDs, tags and vests will be given to the animals.
  • Ban a powder that makes alcoholic drinks with water.
  • The state will enact The Blue Alerts which will notify the public about a search for any one suspected of injuring or killing a police officer. It will work similar to an Amber Alert.
