Does Michigan Really Have The Most Lighthouses In America?
I grew up in the middle of the state, nowhere near any of the great lakes.

But when I moved to Grand Rapids I fell in love with the lakeshore and often would visit it for fun and relaxation.

I didn't know if they were pulling my leg, or if in fact that was true.
Here is what I was able to find out.
How Many Lighthouses Does Michigan Have?
It turns out that, yes, Michigan in fact does have the most lighthouses in the entire country.
According to Michigan.org, Michigan has 120 lighthouses along our 3,000 plus miles of coastline.
These lighthouses stretch from up north near Isle Royal National Park and the Canadian border and go all the way down to southeast Michigan near Port Huron.
Michigan's oldest lighthouse is the Fort Gratiot Light Station which is located next to the Coast Guard Station in Port Huron and was built in 1829.
Not only are these lighthouses a piece of Michigan History, they're also beautiful to look at.
