Michigan is 188 years old, and with that comes a lot of history.

Some of the most important and historic places in the United States are located right here in Michigan and have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

For a place to be selected, it must be deemed worthy of preservation for its historical significance. There are currently around 92,000 locations across the country that have made the registry, including over 2,000 places right here in Michigan.

Michigan Locations on the National Register of Historic Places
I'm not going to list all 2,000 places that are on the list but wanted to take a moment to highlight a couple of my favorites.
The first is the Heritage Hill Historic District.
Heritage Hill is one of the largest urban historic districts in the entire country, with over 1,300 historic properties representing more than 60 architectural styles, ranging from Greek Revival to Prairie style.
The other is Fishtown.
Leland’s Historic Fishtown is one of the last working and thriving fishing districts on the Great Lakes.
You should take some time to look up some of the historic places near you and go check them out.
