No, You Can’t Vote Today in Michigan- It’s Against The Law.
With Election Day coming up tomorrow, some Michigan residents may be surprised to learn that today—November 4th—is off-limits for in-person voting.
Due to Michigan state law, no voting can take place the day before an election, which means voters who missed the early voting period will need to wait until polls open on Election Day, November 5th to cast their ballots.

In Michigan, early voting runs for a generous window leading up to Election Day, allowing residents to vote by absentee ballot or in person at their local clerk’s office. But, according to Michigan election laws, the day before Election Day is reserved to prepare for the final wave of voters. If you intended to vote early but missed the deadline, take this as a reminder to prepare your ID, review your local polling location, and plan your Election Day schedule accordingly.
And, many people have already voted early in Michigan. In fact, 40% of registered voters have already made their way to the polls in 2024, so if you're waiting until the day of, you may be in the minority.
On Election Day, polls across Michigan will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Any voter who is in line by 8 p.m. will still be allowed to cast their ballot, so make sure to get there on time. With high stakes and crucial issues on the ballot, Michigan’s polls are expected to see a strong turnout, so plan ahead and make your vote count.
