Bad news for anyone who had hoped that the Michigan Snowmobile Festival would still be happening in Gaylord, organizers just made the decision to cancel the event this year due to safety concerns regarding COVID-19.

Fox 17 says The Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau announced on Monday that the festival would return in February 2022, and that committee members had already met back in the fall and were planning this year's event, and had even waited until it came time to start funding the different ideas before making their final decision to cancel this year's festivities.

Current COVID-19 restrictions still in place across the state and the fact that positive coronavirus cases are still rising in the state led to the decision to cancel, according to Fox 17.

The Michigan Snowmobile Festival usually draws a few hundred riders to the Gaylord area who enjoy a day of snowmobiling as well as a chance to win a cash prize and enjoy an evening afterparty.
